Dreaded Orange Spots (DOS) An Experiment In Soap Making

dos1

Soap makers face a problem called Dreaded Orange Spots, often referred to as DOS.
These spots have been widely discussed for decades. As the soap ages, sometimes it develops
areas of rusty colored spots. Most people consider them to be a sign of rancidity of the oils.
The spots start off as small round dots and will spread throughout the entire bar over time.

Superfat Vs Lye Discount...What is the Difference?

There is sometimes confusion about superfatting and lye
discounting when you are first starting out with soapmaking. They both mean
the same thing using less lye than needed to completely saponify (turn

the soapmaking process

How To Create a Think Dark Line Between Layers of Soap Tutorial

Here's a cube shaped soap I made using the yellow stamens
I collected from my lilies in the garden. I snipped them
off the bloom and steeped them in a vegetable oil then after a couple
of weeks I strained them through cloth. It's a
nice fresh lemon yellow but will it last I'll put a couple of bars away
and check on them occasionally then report back.
